“What was resilience has curdled into resentment.”

That’s the moment. I speak to what happens in that gap.

The signature keynote

When resilience curdles into resentment

Most of the people in your room aren’t falling apart. They’re coping, brilliantly, and quietly running out.

We’ve spent decades toasting resilience. It got a lot of us through a lot. But resilience that never gets a rest doesn’t stay noble for long. It turns into exhaustion, irritability, and a resentment people feel guilty for even noticing.

This keynote gives that feeling a name and a way through. It brings together nervous system science, a sociologist’s view of the culture we’ve built, and my own story of burning out as a mother, a leader and a corporate professional. At its centre is the idea behind all my work: capacity before capability.

  • RecogniseWhy capable people run out, and why it rarely looks like falling apart.
  • UnderstandWhere our relationship with resilience came from, and what it costs now.
  • RebuildThe Capacity Architecture™, and the practical shifts that give capacity back to people and teams.

The moment the room goes quiet

The smoke after the flame

Partway through the keynote, I light a single candle and let it burn. Then I blow it out, and we watch.

Just because the flame has gone out doesn’t mean the burning is over.

The smoke keeps rising. The wax stays soft. It’s a picture most people recognise straight away: the holiday that didn’t fix it, the weekend that didn’t touch it.

Where a venue doesn’t allow naked flames, I use a short film of the same moment.

What I speak about

  1. Burnout isn’t personal failure. It’s systemic.

Why isolation, perfectionism and toxic cultures reshape our nervous systems, and our families.

  2. Perimenopause as a reckoning

When biology refuses the cultural lies we’ve been sold, and resilience starts to taste like resentment.

  3. Late diagnosis, grief and discovery

Parenting neurodivergent children, especially when diagnosis comes late. And realising you might be neurodivergent too.

  4. The loneliness crisis is structural

We’ve built cultures that reward self-sufficiency at the exact moment humans need community most.

  5. The simple truth

We’re wired for connection. Everything breaks or flows from there.
